acticom offers a fully featured IEEE802.1x-compliant protocol stack named acticom_802.1x. This module ensures secure authentication in wireless and also wired environments by combining the IEEE802.1x standard with additional encryption capabilities. For securing authentication on the wireless air interface the acticom module comprises EAP-TLS and its successor Protected-EAP (PEAP).

Available in binary and full source code, the module stack is implemented in C++ and has been successfully implemented and demonstrated on the following systems: 

  1. BSD-style operating systems (including MacOS X, OpenBSD)
  2. Linux operating system
  3. Windows 2000
  4. Windows XP
  5. portable to any Un*x operating system
