ROHC not only increases the voice quality, it also cuts by half the bandwidth requirements for GSM voice coded voice. In a series of nine different voice quality metrics, substantial voice quality improvements were displayed when ROHC was applied.

In terms of the MOS value an increase of 0.25 was reported. At the same time the bandwidth requirements were cut in half, which in turn gives network providers the possibility to double their capacity in existing cellular networks.
